Ruth

Ruth Chapters 1 – 4

The book of Judges ends with these words ” everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”

Naomi’s family.

Ruth’s promise.

Honourable Boaz , a man who knew and practised God’s commands.

Boaz and Ruth blessed in marriage and children. King David’s great grand parents and more importantly, mentioned in the Lord Jesus’ family tree in Matthew 1 v 5 Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse,
and Jesse begot David the king. (Rahab from Jericho).

Memory Verse

…But Ruth said: “Entreat me not to leave you, Or to turn back from following after you; For wherever you go, I will go; And wherever you lodge, I will lodge; Your people shall be my people, And your God, my God.

Gideon Lesson 2

We didn’t quite get to Gideon laying out the fleeces before God, so we’ll start with that then continue with the Lord choosing the men who cupped the water in their hands to fight for Him. We’ll end the lesson with the reminder that after Gideon’s death the Israelites went back to following false gods .

Memory Verse

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Philippians 4 v13

Coins for Ikelenge

Edited 30th January 2008, I’ve changed the title of the post as the village our friend is at is Ikelenge.

As mentioned in the Christmas 2007 post, the church has a very dear friend who lives in Zambia. The Sunday school children know and love him dearly. He is involved in Sunday school work in some of the villages. I thought it would be good if the children brought some small change each week which could be sent to our dear friend . I’ve asked the church officers and they thought it was a good idea. Pray that the Lord would use our friend and us in His service.

Lesson 53

January 11, 2008

We’re moving on to the book of Judges next. There are so many dramatic things happenning in this book. The lesson notes I have just skim the book with lessons about Gideon and Samson. I’d like to try and give a wider picture of Israel’s repeated sin and the Lord’s patient longsuffering with them.

As an introduction I’m going to summarise the first five chapters with a brief description of Ehud and Deborah then in more detail teach about Gideon, the Angel of the Lord appearing to him, the destruction of his father’s altar to and idol of Baal and his fleeces.

Memory Verses

I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. John 15:5

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9
